Online Notary Services for Ontario Court Forms

This blog post provides a helpful overview of online notary services for Ontario court forms and how Notarize.ca can notarize your Ontario court forms quickly and easily.

More Access to Online Legal Services

Over the last 18 months, the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General has improved access to justice by implementing online filing services and digital document sharing for family law, civil law and small claims matters before Ontario courts.

In Summer 2020, the Ministry of the Attorney General expanded online filing for documents for family law and civil law matters by introducing two new online submission portals. In January 2021, the Ministry expanded electronic filing of court documents to include 70 new types of Small Claims Court documents.

The Ontario Government is also expanding a new digital document sharing platform called CaseLines that allows the sharing of documents online with all parties, judges and court staff.

The digitization of Ontario court services is clearly here to stay. These advances, along with online notary services, are making it easier than ever for all Ontarians to access justice and legal services.

What are Ontario court forms?

Although digital advances are making many aspects of the Ontario court system easier to navigate, the Ontario courts still require parties to use designated forms designed by the Ministry of the Attorney General. These forms are known as Ontario court forms. There are dozens of different types of Ontario court forms, including affidavits and statutory declarations.

The type of Ontario court form needed in a specific matter depends on whether the issue is a family law matter, civil law or small claims court matter.

You can find all of the Ontario court forms on the Ontario Court Forms website. Most forms can be downloaded as a Word document or PDF.

Can Ontario court forms be commissioned remotely?

Yes, Ontario court forms for family law matters, civil law matters and small claims matters can be commissioned remotely with online notary services. Generally, any statutory declaration or affidavit for a matter before an Ontario court can be notarized virtually.

If you need Ontario court forms notarized and are planning on filing the documents electronically, online notarization is ideal: all you need to do is submit the completed notarized electronic document. This will save you a lot of time and hassle because you won’t need to worry about scanning a hard copy document and making sure the file size and format are correct.
